Counselling is a process of talking about, working through and finding meaning out of current concerns, life transitions or difficulties. Counselling can assist a person to clarify concerns, explore options and develop different life strategies so that their self-awareness is increased. This may enable people to move more effectively towards their goals, which may be important in moving forward.
An old proverb says, “A problem shared is a problem halved”, however, most times people keep personal secrets which can have the effect of making them physically or psychologically sick.
Finding someone to talk to is not always easy and there are many reasons for this. Without encouragement, change is not always easy. Within a counselling session people have a safe place to share what is concerning them, learn how to trust again, receive encouragement and work collaboratively with the counsellor to identify a way they find appropriate to move forward.
